This was our first summer at SwissHouse hosting only guests aged 12 and over. So far we are the only hotel in Mariánské Lázně to do so. We would like to explain why we made that decision and what it means when you wake up here in the morning.
We have nothing against children; we have our own at home. David and Pavlína are parents of three, and we know very well what a holiday with small children looks like, and how rare a stay is when, after years, you finally read a book from cover to cover.
But we have only 19 rooms. In a house this small, sound carries along the corridor and across the garden further than anyone would expect. Either it is quiet for everyone, or it is quiet for no one. We chose quiet, and we say so out loud in advance, so that nobody is surprised on arrival.
Children need a playground, space and above all the chance to be noisy. SwissHouse cannot offer them that, and it would be unfair to pretend otherwise. We would rather tell you beforehand than have you find out in your room that this is not the hotel for your family. It is not a gesture against children; it is the only way we know to guarantee the thing our guests come for: silence.
Breakfast here can stretch until eleven, so nobody has to chase the alarm clock in the morning. Afterwards there is the garden with its pond, where you can finish your book in peace. The sauna is reserved for hotel guests and you do not need to book it in advance.
You will enjoy Maruška's cakes and Vladimír's daily menu. And if you add a massage with Kristina, you have an afternoon you will remember for a long time. In the house and in the garden we keep quiet hours from 22:00 to 8:00, so no stomping overhead will wake you in the morning.
The sauna and massages run at a slower pace and the sauna belongs to hotel guests, so you do not have to watch for a time when it will be empty. In the evening the restaurant cooks from its current menu, not a children's menu, and the day slows down here of its own accord.

During the day the restaurant stays open to absolutely everyone, including families with small children. You are welcome to come for lunch or afternoon coffee with a child of any age. The 12+ rule applies to overnight stays, because we protect the quiet mainly in the evening and in the morning, when people in the house and garden are sleeping. It applies to everyone equally, without exceptions.
Why twelve? It is the age at which a child can cope with a quiet hotel and, more importantly, enjoy it: the sauna, a long breakfast, a walk to the colonnade. We accommodate guests aged twelve and over without any restriction; they are as welcome here as adults. We make no exception even for babies, because then the promise of quiet for all our other guests would no longer hold.
If you are coming to Mariánské Lázně with younger children, write to us at [email protected]. We know the town well and will gladly suggest where they will be happier. Everything about the 12+ rule is on the page Quiet for grown-ups.
It seems we made the right decision. This year our guests are staying on average a whole night longer than last year. The best compliment they can give us is that they do not want to go home. That makes us happy, and we do not think it is a coincidence: when you sleep well in the house and have nowhere to rush to in the morning, you do not feel like leaving. One of our guests wrote to us after her first stay:
The colonnade in autumn light and the quiet of the spa parks have a charm of their own. Come to Mariánské Lázně and take a deep breath with us.
Breakfast until eleven, a sauna you do not need to plan around, a garden with a pond, and from 22:00 quiet throughout the house and the garden. You will find available dates in our booking system, and if you are not sure whether SwissHouse is the right place for you, write to us at [email protected].
