At Hotel SwissHouse we care about offering first-class, local and stylish services. To be able to provide them properly, we choose each supplier carefully, whether it is food, drink, furnishings, consumables or the tradespeople who carry out our regular repairs and renovations.
In the series “Our suppliers: the best for your satisfaction” we would like to introduce you, one by one, to the people whose products or services impressed us so much that we decided to make them part of our everyday hotel life. You will find out who is responsible for the fact that even the worst insomniac falls asleep at Hotel SwissHouse, who you have to thank for sitting so comfortably in our restaurant, and who is behind the sparkling glasses that make our homemade elderflower lemonade, beer and Kynžvart spring water taste so good.
But let us start somewhere else, with wine. On Wednesday 5 June 2019, as part of their travels around West Bohemia, Mr and Mrs Šamšula came to see us from their small winery in Čejkovice in South Moravia. The philosophy of their family business is completely in tune with our values. Add to that a professional approach, more than favourable references and wines that, at the tasting, delighted every one of our taste buds down to the last drop, and there was nothing to think about. Wines from theJakub Šamšula winery in Čejkovice have since June 2019 been part of our drinks list.
The Jakub Šamšula winery, Čejkovice
Not far from Hodonín, in a small village called Čejkovice, lies the kingdom of Jakub Šamšula. It is a small boutique winery that specialises in limited-edition quality wines with special attributes, mostly dry whites, which stand out for their delicacy and clean taste. The range also includes some specialities: Moravský sekt Šamšula, a sparkling wine made purely from Moravian grapes that you will appreciate on festive occasions, and Tramín oranžový, an orange Traminer made by the oldest winemaking method, which comes from Georgia.
Most of the grapes for the wines come from the winery's own vineyards, which Jakub tends lovingly together with his wife and one employee. They process the grapes themselves, ferment them in wooden barrels and then bottle the wine. That their wines are a success is shown not only by the thousands of bottles sold every year, but also by regular places in the final of the prestigious Winery of the Year competition.
Although Jakub helped his grandfather in the vineyards from an early age, he only fell for wine and winemaking after finishing secondary school. He enrolled at the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, then completed the Wine Academy in Valtice and the Sommelier Academy in Prague. He also gathered plenty of inspiration on his travels around Italy, France and Austria. Today he is a member of the SZPI (Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority) wine classification committee, of the board of the Czech Winemakers' Association and of the governing board of the National Wine Centre. He founded his own winery in 2004.
And which of Jakub Šamšula's wines can you enjoy at Hotel SwissHouse?
- The “dangerously drinkable”, cheerful and playful Sauvignon BOUQUET late harvest, dry, just right for lifting your mood after an unpleasant day full of duties;
- the fresh, mineral Ryzlink rýnský (Riesling) late harvest, dry, which matured for you in acacia barrels and will give you strength on hot summer days; and/or
- the “crazy” Hibernal BOUQUET late harvest, medium dry, for everyone who loves the violet Bon Pari sweets.
“We wanted to have a wine for every occasion, which is why we reached for the excellent Sauvignon. We were also keen to include a wine that goes with our evening menu, which often features fish. That is why we chose the refreshing Riesling. We were very taken with the taste of the Hibernal too. So we decided to give our guests the same pleasure,” said David Folprecht, the hotel's owner, explaining the final choice of wines.
A glass of excellent wine in the garden of Hotel SwissHouse: the ideal plan for the summer days ahead.
We look forward to your visit.
