GALERIE MARIENBAD: culture back on the colonnade. In the historic heart of Mariánské Lázně, right on the 19th-century Maxim Gorky Colonnade, there is a new space for contemporary art, Galerie MARIENBAD.
The space and its architecture
The gallery is housed in the newly restored colonnade extension built in 1976–1982. It includes a 250 m² exhibition hall on the first floor, which ties in architecturally with the historic structure of the colonnade. The space is modern and bright, mainly thanks to its large windows and original skylights. It also has a video room where short films about the life and work of the exhibiting artist are shown.
Programme and focus
The gallery puts on three curated exhibitions a year, focused on well-regarded Czech and international artists. This new cultural oasis links the spa tradition with visual art and opens up new forms of inspiration and reflection for the town.
Opening and first exhibition
GALERIE MARIENBAD was formally opened on Friday 9 May 2025 with the private view of its first exhibition, the work of Václav Malina to mark his 75th birthday. Since Saturday 10 May the gallery has been open every day from 14:00 to 17:00.
Third exhibition
After the Ivana Lomová exhibition, Galerie MARIENBAD presented its third exhibition, devoted to the well-regarded artist František Hodonský.
The exhibition ran from 16 January 2026 to 13 May 2026. His work has been inspired throughout his life by the landscape of South Moravia: its floodplain forests, its waters and the changing energy of nature. Hodonský works in painting, printmaking, relief and sculpture, and through colour and expressive form he captures the landscape as he experiences it inwardly.

Galerie MARIENBAD has breathed cultural life back into the colonnade and underlined its role as a place for meeting, inspiration and art. The gallery supports local and international artists, brings art to the wider public and adds to the historic atmosphere of the spa town.
